I did not want to hi-jack the other thread.
Did Ruger ever sell a factory folder mini-14 that was not a GB model? I have seen a mini-14 with what appears to be a factory folding stock with no bayonet lug on the barrel. The front sling attachment was on the side suggesting that this is a factory folding stock. Did somebody have a GB folder and just changed the barrel out?

    Any thoughts on the Mini-14? I am considering trading for one and wonder if anyone has an opinion, good or bad.

    most likely yes.... that...or someone bought a factory folder by itself and put it on their standard mini.

    Yes, I owned one around 1984-5; I have a Ruger catalog from that time-frame too with the factory-folder in it. I don't know how many were produced, but have seen a number offered for sale in shops and at gun shows though out the years so I don't think it would be considered a particularly rare item.

    The Butler Creek folding stock is much better than the original Ruger factory folder, but grandfathered factory folders sell for a significant premium (and will probably continue too if the ban expires) over grandfathered "assault style" Mini-14's with a Butler Creek folding stock.

    Yes they did and you can still fiond them used and new in the box. There are no accuracy differences in any of the Mini 14 rifles. My 2 cents [8D]

    I believe a number of these were also supplied to state and local police departments to keep in there truck for some additional firepower.

    Darin,these folders are like hens' teeth.I've owned several over the years and made good money in selling them too!I once called the ruger company to purchase a locking screw for one of these stocks and was told that nothing was available to the public,in fact the rep.didn't wish to discuss the matter any further.
    If you see one,about 300-400 bucks is what I sold mine for in California!!!.
