Remington 700VLS or Kimber?
I'm interested in purchasing a new varmint rifle. Does anybody have any recommendations in regards to the Remington 700VLS or one of the Kimber varmint rifles? Which has the better trigger? Barrel? I know the 700's trigger machanism can be replaced with aftermarkets. Is the same true of the Kimber?
Also does anybody have any experience with the .204 Ruger? It sounds good, but I've also read it may not be all it cracked up to be. Any input would be great. Thanks

My first choice for a Varmit rifle would be a Cooper (about the same price as a Kimber). Between the Kimber or Remington, I would take the Kimber hands down. They are not only very accurate, but the look great. I don't think anyone makes an aftermarket trigger for the Kimber, but of the ones I have tried they don't need it. I also think the Kimber would have better re-sale.

my brother purchased 2 of the Remingtons last winter 1 in 22-250 and the others is in 223 I believe , he is not happy with either so far , both have Burris black diamond scopes on them both have been to a good smith for trigger and bedding work and either on them will shoot worth a darn , i talking around 1 inch or bigger groups at 100 yards off the bench , which really sucks 0 -

I had up over 20 Remington's a few years ago and after they wouldn't honor thier warranty (or were at the very least too stupid to fix it). Since then, I fixed the problem myself that they wouldn't fix (after the warranty ran out) and sold all but 3 of my Remington's and I'd sell 1 of those right now, and the other one if I could break even.
To thier defense, my most accurate factory rifle ever was a Remington 700 VS-SF in .220 Swift that'd shoot 3/8" 3 shot group at 100 yards or 1/2" 5 shot group using premium factory ammo. I've never had another rifle even come close to that.
If I were buying one right now, I'd lean towards the Kimber, but I'd also consider other heavy-barrel options.0 -
firedude4570, Personally I am a 700 fan. I just finished posting my group info on another topic which is very similar to bambihunters info except mine is a .308 700vs. Either choice you make get the heavy barrel.
gskyhawk, I am curious to know what type of ammo you were using to get groups no smaller than 1" with a 22-250.
As I said before I am a fan of the 700, However I don't have alot of experience with the Kimber so I couldn't make a fair judgement between the two. Happy shooting and good luck with your choice[:D]

My 700 vls is in 308, heavy flutted barrel, was a special order gun from factory, I'm happy with the results useing match grade ammo, ballistic tips seem to fly right notice the 5 on right side.
