FIXIN SCRATCHES
Has anyone tried to polish scracthes out of the satin stainless finish on a Browning? How about in the synthetic stalk? Should I leave them alone? Or can I rub them out. Taking the grandson fishin up north for a few days. Will appreciate any and all replys.

I don't have experience with the Browning but I have had good results with other stainless pieces. It is easy to polish stainless and remove scratches. Most any polish method or material works. The trick is in the final finish. A hard gloss finish is obtained by buffing with fine compound on a rag buffer wheel. Most finishes are not hard gloss and are easily show how the last finish is applied. With a magnifier study the original surface and determine how fine your reworked surface needs to be. Try a few strokes of a finer, maybe 600, wet or dry paper. If that is too fine try the next coarser. Be careful to duplicate and blend the direction of strokes. Most important, try it on a piece of scrap and develop a technique before you do it on your gun. Hope this helps. 0 -
One important thing is to NOT use a wire brush, as the carbon steel from the wire brush will inbed in the stainless and possibly show surface rust. 0
