More accurate: Yugo SKS or Saiga 7.62x39?

For those of us who use milsurps and the like for deer hunting, which rifle is more accurate, the Yugo SKS or the Saiga 7.62x39? Granted, I know you won't find snipers using either. Thanks for your replies.

    This is just opinion that I am offering.

    I own a chinese SKS which is an accurate shooter. I surmise that there not much effective difference between the Yugo and the Saiga. As you have already noted, neither is a precision shooter. Some optics and good ammo would probably be effecitve to improve the performance of either.

    You are probably talking 3 to 4" practical grouping @ 100yds and a little less or more energy, depending on whose opinion you use. This still is in the 30-30 range of power and we all know that boatloads of deer over time have fallen to that cartridge. I think bullet type and manufacturer is going to be the largest concern and I think offhand, the SKS might be a little easier to carry over the day. I know short(under ten round) mags are around for the SKS but not sure on the AK, and your local law will prevail on ammo and magazine requirement.

    The Yugo came out in Shotgun news about a year ago. It is sniper quality. Had a 3 page article on the rifle. My son shoots hogs out to 300 yards.. Prob the max effective range for this type of game. But I would say more like 3/4 - 1 inch groups at 100 yards..His is old and worn in. The new ones are prob, a lot better on the groups.

    The Yugo does not have a chrome-lined barrel. The Saiga does. Neither rifle is sniper accurate but both are fun to shoot and ammo is cheap.
    I'll take the Russian Saiga but I have heard the tolerances are closer on the Yugo.

    UHH-Yea-Right- this comment from the same guy who makes 200 yd shots with a Mac ,see his other posts. Ted Gar must be a 13 yr old dreamer. Please stop posting crap like this, someone might make a very bad decision based on your total BS answers. People here will educate you if you let them.

    Yea, and my Red Ryder groups 1/4" at 100 yds, and I routinely take Cape Buffalo with it -- all on-shot kills of course.

    Yes I shoot deer with a 45 auto pistol, because I know the limitations of my gun., and practice a lot. But for your info..on the M59 Yugo, so that you can look it up... SHOTGUN NEWS VOLUME 57 ISSUE 12,2003 page 12 thru 16. Titled the SKS IN THE BALKANS. It describes the Yugo pretty well. Maybe we just got lucky, and found a good one.
    I was not talking about making a 1000 yard shot with the Russian Dragonov. Which is very capable of doing so with the 7.62x39, I was just talking about shooting 300 yards...

    I'm not sure why I respond to this, but the Dragunov's, both the actual Russian and the somewhat reasonable copy, the Romanian sniper rifle are both bored for the 7.62x54R, an extremely different and substancially more potent cartridge than the 7.62x 39.
