Glock 23

Have a chanch to purchase a Glock 23, two 13 rd. mags, been fired so little that there is no sign of wear on any moveing parts. 40 cal. $450.00 --- is it a good deal or should I keep looking?

    Newbie question. I have a glock 23 i got used from a friend and it rattles when i shake it. I took the mag out and still rattles. Does not rattle when it is cocked. Any thoughts?

    The Glock 23 : I both love and hate mine. It's been 100% reliable, but on the negative side the plastic grips really are uncomfortable, precisily the checkering. Accuracy in real shooting is not so great, for me I'm lucky to get 4 inches at 25 yards. This is a gun however that I would use for serious business under 7 yards and at that range I can easily put all 10 in a "head" sized target very quickly. That's what I bought it for. Still I think I'd rather just rely on a Walther PPK with a weaker cartridge. I think at 7 yards the differnce in stopping between .40 and .380 wouldn't be so bad. Your poor accuracy may be all you can expect and the Glock never was meant as a target pistol,it does well what it was designed for.

    Glocks are service pistols, intended for close range (25 feet or less) work. Yes I can take a Glock and with a couple ranging shots manage, more often than not, to hit a 24 inch dia. steel plate at 100 yards (70-80%) and thats w/ 9mm, 357 sig, 40 or 45. But from a rest I'm very happy if I can park 5 shots inside of 3" at 25 yards. I even have a 17 with adjustable "target" sight and it's performance is about the same (perhaps a little better) than the fixed/drift sighted pistols.

    As for taking a 380 over a 40 (or other higher power cal.) I wouldn't do it if I had a choice and there were no issues with the size difference relative to carryability. The why is simple, hit the "target" harder! But, if 380 was all that was availabe, or carry conditions were such that such a pistol were necessary ... I would carry it loaded with top end defensive rounds.

    If you only have time to do two things so-so, or one thing well ... do the one thing!

    Thanks guys, I did buy it for home defense so it will work fine for that. I do love shooting it.

    I love my G23, it is one of my favorite handguns. The G23 was not intended to be a tack driver. I can get sub 3 inch groups off a rest at 25 yards with the right ammo and if I do my part.

    As you fire the G23 more, your accuracy will improve as you get used to the Glock trigger and the gun wears in.

    When I want to shoot little groups, I use my one of tricked out 1911's. Around the house, I trust my G23 as my house gun.

    Guns only have two enemies: Rust and Liberals....
