Rechambering Ruger No.1

I would like to have a Ruger No.1 in .240 Weatherby Magnum. There are several reasonably priced No.1's on the used market, and I plan on buying one and rechambering to the .240 Wby.

Can anyone suggest what would be the best chambering to start with? .30-06? 7 Mag? The .240 is belted.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    HELLO I have a few things I am not clear about on your question .If you rechamber a barrel you are stuck with the bore size in other words you can't make a 30/06 barrel into a 240 WEB MAG you could make a 30/06 into a 300 web. mag BUT DUE TO the fact that one is a belted case AND ONE IS NOT YOU WILL HAVE TO BUY ANOTHER EXTRACTOR.THE CHAMBER REAMER SHOULD HAVE THE BELT AS PART OF IT.

    you need a 243 or 6mm to start with unless you intend to replace the barrel competely either the 243 or 6mm could just be rechambered and save you a ton of money if you intend to replace the barrel i would start with a no.1 in 7mm mag or on of the other mags. as you could use the extractor on you 240
