Springfield Garand 1944

Bought this M1 at a gunshow about 8-9 yrs. ago. Non-import Mfg. in '44 and re-bbl in 03/56, original walnut stock/cartouche Seems in good mechanical cond. and not beat up, but I've never fired it. Should I have someone check the MW & TE before test firing?

  Muzzle Wear and Throat Erosion are accuracy issues, not safety issues. Gas cylinder/piston wear are operational issues.
  If you have a good smith in your area, and are concerned about potential safety issues, have him give it a once over, check the headspace (distance between chamber shoulder and closed bot face), and do a clean and lube (might ask him to show you how to lube if your not familier with it). He will probably do the TE/MW at the same time, IF he has the special tool required.
