Buying from CMP store

You must meet the same criteria if you buy in the store.

Yes, it's possible to get something a little "special" when you browse the racks (e.g., tight bore, nice condition, unusual stock, etc.) But, most of the guys looking are very familiar with the guns, & they know what to look for. If this is your first M1, I'd suggest ordering by mail & taking your chances; just too many things that you have to know when making a decision by yourself.

Yes, you need the paper work: Drivers licence, Birth Certificate and club membership. Exception, I only needed club membership with my retired military ID (Officer only).
I do recommend going personally. The rifles are categorized for price, but I found one in a lower priced group that was better than any in the next group! There are also some unlisted items available.

nmyers...The guys at the store are pretty knowledgable too. And if you give them an idea of what you want and they are not too busy they can be a tremendous help to the neophyte buyers. I'd still say you are way ahead going to the store at Perry rather than just unwrapping the box at home. And of course if you get a fellow GBer there he can help out as well. Now of course if you live in Alaska or Hawaii I'd really have to modify that statement about the trip being worthwhile. Beach

Can you walk in and buy a Garand at the Alabama location like you can at the Camp Perry location?

I know the Garand pretty well. I purchased both of Scott Duff's books before my first Garand. Actually I want a shooter with tight muzzel and minimal throat erosion so i want to check out the Danish and I believe the Greek buybacks. Thanks for your info and I am salavating at the opportunity to head up there

No, you can't. There is no store in Anniston.
