Mark.... Does the ser number on the butt of the gun start with a "K"? If so, it was built in 1953.

By the pic it looks like you have a K-22 Combat Masterpiece (Pre-model 18). For its age, it is in great condition. With the original box it is worth about $450 to $550.

Very, very nice K-22. The box is a real plus. Congratulation on your handgun.

Very nice to hear and thank you for your replies. There is no "K" before the s.n. I can remember getting the pistol in the box from my dad around 85 and it still had the wax paper and manual. Very good and fun shooter.

Sorry, but the s/n you've given don't match up with any of the K-22's

Even the earliest K frame is numbered in the M&P s/n range of 632132 through 682419.

    The pre-model 17 and 18 have "K" prefixes.

Excluding s/n it certainly looks like an early 50's Model 18

Double check the s/n. There should be matching numbers on the bottom of the butt frame, the barrel flat above the extractor rod, and probably on cyl. face, behind extractor star and maybe the yoke. Other numbers typically found are "assy. bin" numbers used in keeping the parts together though manufacturing. Sometimes these numbers are mistaken for s/n.

Ahhhh, your right. I double checked and the "K" is before the s.n. It is like way in front of the number so I must have overlooked it, it almost looks like a proof stamp. Thanks Contender Man[:D]

Then 1953 was the year of mfg.

Fine looking example w/ what appears to be an almost new condition box. If you have the paperwork and tools that came with it you have quite a few dollars in value just in box and accessories. You may want to "ice the cake" by getting a S&W letter ... it'd run you $30, but would be a good investment in this case.

Enjoy it, you've got one prime K-22 example.
