unknown gun
I've got an old shotgun, and I know almost nothing about it. It's a single shot 20 gauge that my old man refinished at least 20 years ago. It has a serial #, but no maker, model, etc. on it. We can't find any other marke or numbers on it (other than full choke). Is there any way to figure out whose it is? Thanks.

Several years ago my Dad purchased a gun that we cannot identify. There are no markings on the gun and he does not even know what type of ammunition the gun shoots...the only other time we have seen the sane type of gun is one hanging in an old saloon(the Number Ten)in Deadwood SD...it was surrounded by pictures of well known Indians of the old west..how do we go about trying to identify the gun when we don't even know the manufactor. 0 -
It's mine, give it back.[8D]
Sound like it could be one of any number of single shots made in the late 1800's to the early/mid 1900's. In this case a picture is worth a million words.[8D]

eastwood44mag,
No. Basically, what you have asked someone to do is identify a gun for which there is no information.
I can identify it as a shotgun, but need a picture or some other identifying marks. There should be a name on the receiver or barrel somewhere.

I'll try to post a picture, but my scanner is acting up, so it may be a while. 0 -
You'd be suprised at the sheer #'s of these old (what I call) "hardware store" shotguns floating around that match that description. [:D]
I will make a prediction though. I'm willing to bet it's a Savage/Stevens. This is just a guess though. [:D]

Crescent! Yes! I was trying to think of that mfg's name. Couldn't think of it...thankee powdersmoke.

Had one like that offered to me at a gun show several years ago. We started looking all over it and found what we figured was the original owner's name and a date (1924) on the inside of the forearm. Had to be a Crescent "Hardware Store" brand, but the guy thought he knew the original owner's grandson. He said he was going to offer it to him. Wish someone would offer me my Granddad's gun. Look it over REALLY hard, maybe you'll find some provenance on it. Good luck!! 0
