H&R 1873 Cavalry Carbine($1,179)????

One of the pawn shops I frequent has this one priced at $1,179.
It's just an ordinary H&R Model 172 Deluxe 1873 Cavalry Carbine replica with standard scroll engraving on lock, hammer, and trigger guard. Blued steel. common walnut stock and round barrel. No tang sight and no ramrod. Am I missing something or did the pawn shop make a mistake? All their other guns are priced fairly, even a bit low. There is absolutely no precious metal anywhere nor any case nor papers. Plus it appears to have been fired. I heard they made an $800 loan on it.

    CORRECTION. It's a model 171 Deluxe.

    The only thing I could imagine was that the guy who made the loan got it confused with one of those Custer Memorial Carbines. There was a Enlisted Man's Model, made for each trooper who died at the Little Big Horn, there the only ones that would go for that kind of money.

    I wonder how many months I'll have to wait before they drop the price to $350-400? They really don't know guns at this shop. I recently bought a Colt Det. Spec. 2nd Issue there for $99. Most of the clerks are women and a few young men who know jewelry, gold, stereos and TV's and are really good on tool prices and musical instruments. I think you are probably right on your theory of why they paid so much for the carbine. I guess the man who sold it to them is the person who made the big deal.

    Looks and sounds like your Buddies at the local Hock Shop got themselves buried into this one...$350.00 Tops...my considered opinion........

    Yep the 3 or 4 I've seen over the years sold for between $350-400.
