clarification on polarizing light.
Direct light for the most part is not polarized. When light is reflected from a surface it becomes polarized (the light waves are oriented and enhanced in a perferred direction). Since glare is reflected light it is polarized. Polarizing filters allows only those light waves polarized in one plane to pass through, others are blocked out / absorbed by the filter. This is how one gets rid of glare off of objects or windows. BTW, have you ever noitced how cheap polarized sunglasses almost never function correctly. Apparently the manufacturer does not understand that the lens must be cut in a certain orientation to acheive functionality. If you have these cheap sunglasses, turn them in a circular manner while looking through them and you will see the glare dissappear.
Sorry all those years of Physics in under-grad just came out. Yes I know I have a Promethean Temperament.
