info on 3 pistols

my father has a couple of old pistols that he has asked me to research and i can think of no better place to start than here at gunbroker ! ! !

he has three pistols that he would like info on.

1) the first is a H & R model 929 "side-kick" . . . any one have any info on this piece? DOM, value, and any other general info that may be of interest.


2) the second is a pocket size semi auto in 6.35 cal. made in germany.

on the left side of the slide is marked:
Deutsche Werke Aktiengesellschaft * Werk Erfurt
Ortgies Patent
has wood grip handles (broken), on barrel is marked 6.35 cal and on frame in front of triger gaurd (on bottom side) is marked Germany 479**

3) the final piece is a pocket size semi auto in 6.35 cal from spain

the left side of the pistol on the frame is marked;
Automatica Espanola - Pats 62004 Y 67577
"Bufalo" Cal 6.35

on the right side of the frame is marked
145**
made in spain

on the left side of the frame under the slide catch is printed seguro at an angle reading Seguro from top to bottom
an interesting note on this piece is that the barrel can be unscrewed without having the slide removed.


all three of these pistols were my great grand fathers and we ar looking for any and all pertinant information on these pieces.

    I had an H&R (Harrington & Richardson) 929 for several years as a youth; sold it for the same $125 I gave for it. In my opinion, they are well-made, but do not take much abuse; the cylinder on mine would turn either direction after I rotated it the wrong way once-must have been ready to go.

    The Ortgies is the only one that may have collector interest, the Bufalo is another of Europe's gunmakers' "hideout" pistols; cheaply made and mass-produced.

    Sorry your Gramps didn't leave you quite the treasure trove you might have expected, but they were his, and now they're yours.

    Value is condition-dependent within a particular demand. Collectibility would probably be (1)Ortgies, (2)H&R, (3) The Spaniard. DW-Erfurt made fine-quality guns under the Ortgies patents. H&R stuff was produced in later years on the early turn-of-the-century mechanics with cosmetic differences and can be difficult to service although original quality was good. The "Bufalo" was one of a gazillion Spanish guns produced by very many manufacturers who copied Colt, Browning, Astra, Peiper, Lignose and just about everybody else. These copies ranged from horrible to excellent quality.

    if you furnish the letter(s) code in the serial number of the model 929 i can give you an exact year of manufacture.

    my references on the buffalo state it was manufactured by 'gabilondo y cia' forebearer of the company that manufactures the llama today. the book 'pistols of the world' by hoggs and weeks has information on all three of your handguns.

    as a BUFALO owner i must add a few remarks. if the grips are standard hard rubber or bakalite, and the gun is in very good condition or better, you are talking about $125.00-$175.00 as a fair market insurance value.

    if the grips are SOUTH AFRICAN CAPE BUFFALO HORN (used when wartime shortages made bakalite and hard rubber expensive) and the gun and grips are in very good or better condition, you are talking about $350.00-$450.00 as a fair market insurance value.

    while many spanish made guns are junk, or poorly made clones, this particular model is a GEM. very well made, good craftmanship.
