Lithgow vs. Lee

Whats the difference (besides manufacturer) between the Lee-Enfield and the Lithgow-Enfield? they look different, but is there any major performance gap between the two?

  The Australian Military Arsenal at Lithgow produced "Number 1 Mark 3" Lee-Enfield rifles for use by the Australian military during both the First & Second World Wars.
  
  During the Second World War the Lee-Enfield Rifle manufactured in England, Canada & the US, were the "Number 4 Mark 2".
  
  Although the rifles produced in Australia had a different physical appearance, they fired the same cartridge, so the performance was comparable.

  Lithgow is the Aussie arsenal that made the rifle. They decided that there was no point in re-tooling for the No. 4 rifle when the No. 1 Mk III worked just fine. They did add some refinements. A peep rear sight among others. Hence, you will find WW II era No 1's.
  A Lee-Enfield isn't. The term defines a whole class of rifles.
