Hey I have an old revolver that I got inhirated from my step dad before he died. Heres what I know. Its a break top 5 shot revolver. Its got what I believe they called the american saftey hammer.
There is no model number on the entire gun that I can find but on the very top sight rail it says "harrington & richardson arms co worcester, mass. u.s.a. pat'd oct 4 '87". If anyone has any idea what model or years produced or value of this gun with the info provided it would be greatly appriated.

    Is there a web site or reference that gives approx date of manfacture for the old (saturday night specials) revolvers? Example: American Double Action serial # 4900/5000 range? Or approx cut off at the 1898 date?

    It is probably a 38 S&W. This is a shorter cartridge than a 38 spl.

    Trigger spring likely broken. If you remove trigger guard, two halves of a broken v-spring will probably fall out.

    Insufficient data flying all over here. You said it was a pistol, not a revolver. It could be a .380, a 9 x 19, 20,21,22,23,or 25, a 38 ACP, or anything else which would not accept a .38 special but which would allow a .32 to fall through. Note that there are a half-dozen different 9 x 23's alone, including the Bergmann, Largo, Winchester, and others. Photos and markings will tell the story, but just take it to any gunshop (Not a K-Mart).

    ok,not up on all the gun slang,REVOLVER,and it says on the barrel Harrington and Richardson 1987.

    I think Pearyw has this one. Blue Book says if made before the 1980's, has black plastic grips, 4 or 6 inch barrel, break open action, fixed sights, double action, it is .38 S&W, NOT .38spec.
    These were made for police reserves and major corporation guards for WWII. Values range from $55 to $140.
