Manual for Star 9mm MDL BM
I was wondering if anyone knew where to find one online 'cause I just bought one(used of course) and didn't get a manual. I've only found Star B Super model manuals and can't find one for the BM.

Couldn't find any on-line, but the "NRA Guide to Pistols & Revolvers", ISBN 0-935998-76-4, has a excellent section on the various Star Pistols. This includes a IPB and disassembly instructions for the Star BM.

www.donttouchme.com/star has lots of good information on STAR pistols but the manual you get under Star Model BM is the manual for the Star Model B. You've probably already figuered out that the take down procedure on the BM is different than the B. If you try to strip it like a 1911, you can get a couple of very nasty surprises. If you want a step-by-step take down description, respond in this forum and I'll give it to you. Wolff makes replacement recoil springs for the BM. I recommend the 14# Wolff spring. The ones that come on the surplus BMs are usually a little weak for full power loads. I've been looking for replacement mag springs but so far have not found them. They are really great little pistols. Mine will shoot 2" groups all day at 10 yards. The most accurate and 100% functioning carry ammo that I have found is the Golden Saber 124g BJHP. I like Blazer 115g for practice.

STAR Modem BM take down
1. Remove the magazine and check the chamber
2. Move the slide rearward until the slide-stop is aleigned with the slide notch (the notch closest to the front of the slide).
3. While holding the slide in place, remove the slide stop by pushing it through from the right side of the pistol.
4. With the slide stop removed, slowly allow the slide to move forward until the tension is relieved from the recoil spring.
5. Remove the slide assembly by sliding it forward off of the frame.
6. Remove the guide rod and captive spring assembly. Tilt the barrel link rearward to allow room to get the guide assembly out of the slide.
7. Remove the barrel bushing.
8. Move the barrel link to the forward position and slide the barrel forward out of the slide.
9. You are now field stripped for cleaning with the following six parts: Slide, frame, barrel, barrel bushing, guide rod assembly, and slide stop.
10. Reverse the produre for assembly.
If you want to change the recoil spring:
1. Unscrew the end guide from the recoil rod while keeping tension on the spring. Be sure to hold on to the spring or it will go airborne.
2. Remove the recoil spring being careful not to lose the small spring cap in the muzzle end of the spring.
3. Remove the spring cap piece from the old spring, insert it into the new spring, replace the spring and spring cap on to the guide rod.
4. Carefully depress the spring and screw the guide back onto the guide rod.
A couple of tips:
Be careful with the safety lever when you have the slide or grips revoved from the gun. The safety is tensioned by a small spring and pin that rides in a grove on the underside of the safety lever. If the grip or slide is revoved, it is possible to rotate the safety lever off of the spring and pin resulting in a high velocity missle that will be dangerous and almost inpossible to find if it goes airborne.
This gun is equipped with a magazine safety that wil not allow the gun to be fired if the magazine is removed. Some people like this and some do not. One problem, if you are using the pistol for defence, is that with this safety, the magazine will not fall free when the magazine release button is pressed. You have to manually grasp the mag and pull it fron the mag well. This makes for slow mag changes. It also means that if you are doing a tactical reload with a round still in the chamber, you cannot fire that round until the mag is replaced. If you decide to disable this safety, see the instructions on the donttouchme site. It's a simple procedure. I'm not recommending this, but I am providing the information if you decide to do this.
Good luck. If for some reason you find that these instructions do not work for your pistol. please let me know. One other thing: Parts for this gun are hard to find and are expensive if you can find them. If you are going to shoot this gun a lot, you may want to consider buying another one for parts. I see the BMs for around $130-$150 on several sites. Mags alone cost about $35 each with shipping. It wouldn't take much to pay more for a few parts than for the whole gun. If nothing ever breaks, you will have a piecethat wil surelly appreciate over the next few years.0 -

Just picked up a Star BM yesterday. Lovely weapon, unfortunate designation. [8D] S&B FMJs function quite well in it. Should make a nice compact carry piece, if a tad heavy. Overall, a good value, methinks.

What's a good source for accessories (magazines, barrels, etc)?

BM accessories:
Mags usually run around $30 but you can get them for $15 at J&G Sales Prescott, AZ. (Google J&G Gun Sales)
Numrich has a very limited stock of parts but they do have wood checkered grips and guide ring assemblies. Wolff has recoil springs but I cannot find mag springs.
