where is Camp Perry
I am thinking about going there to buy a Garand. Where is it? I did a Yahoo search on the map and it could not locate it or Port Clinton. Thanks.........Joe

It is on the shores of Lake Erie approximately 20 miles west of Sandusky, OH.0 -
Find Toledo, Ohio on the map...go about 21 miles due east on Ohio Route 2....Camp Perry is there right before you get to Port Clinton... if you get to Sandusky you've gone too far. Beach.
P.S. This week will be a bear there...last week of competiton so it will be busier than you can imagine. Of course you might score some real bargains on Commercial Row from merchants who don't want to take their wares home. But the CMP North store will be packed(not a good time for really individualized attention).0 -
I will post later looking for people who want to carpool to Camp Perry from SE Wisconsin. Thinking of leaving late at night to avoid the dreaded Chicago traffic and get there when it opens. I finally found it on yahoo maps, inputing the zipcode. About 450 miles from my home. I would probably buy at least one rifle and a case of 30-06, so the savings in shipping would just about pay for the gas. Get four other people along and you save a lot. Probably go in October......Joe

If you want a good steak while you are there small place just west of drawbridge in PORT CLINTON right on the beach. BOBSKI does not smell any more and the (*&^ wind never stops blowing with a 100 shot straight out of CANADA. At least that whats it's like middle of July quote:"PRAISE THE HARDBALL GUN" 0 -

i had my first kiss at CAMP PERRY...
i lusted after a 14 year old NICOLE PANKO at CAMP PERRY...
i recieved some personal one-on-one training time with ART COOKE, LONES WIGGER, and MIKE ANTI as a junior shooter at CAMP PERRY...
i have been eaten alive by hummingbird sized mosquitos in the 110 degree heat while attempting to sleep in a rotting, ant infested WHITE HUT at CAMP PERRY...
while wearing 2 sweat shirts, and full leather comp gear, i passed out due to dehydration and heat cramps at CAMP PERRY...
i shot my first 400-18X perfect / clean prone for record score at CAMP PERRY...
i had the only WIN MODEL 52-B (28" SPECIAL HEAVY BBL, NSS 4-POINT ELECTRIC BEDDER, MARBLE-GOSS SIGHTS with VAVER INSERTS, etc...) in an endless sea of ANSHUTZ-WALTHER-FIENWERKBAU clones...
as a young junior shooter i was off the radar, and invisible, but i learned alot, and met some amazing, legendary folks...
everyone should go, and stay at least once...

Why go to Camp Perry just to get a Garrand? I don't know where you are, but you can always find a local CMP club match, qualify and purchase your Garrand through CMP. Save the trip if it's a long one.
As far as the astetic quality of 'going' to Camp Perry, I can not attest to it. It's only about 70 miles from here and I have never gone. Now if they had the steel challenge or Pinshooting there....

pinshooter...If you go to Camp Perry YOU pick out your Garand. We've all got Garands by mail from the CMP...what you open is what you get!!! When you go there you get to choose as close to what you want as you can imagine from many rifles on the rack. I was there today and Jim Adell, one of the country's foremost Garand gurus, gave me a lesson in op rods. He wanted my trigger group for one of his M1's simply because it was more worn than his and matched his M1 better than the new one he had in his M1. When he saw the serial number on my rifle he said that he had been looking at it last week but had decided against it. I was pretty pleased that a person of his stature in the Garand community had beed tempted to buy the same POS Greek rifle that I bought. The education you get when you are there is more than worth a 70 mile trip. Beach 0 -

you get what they send you from the CMP. you do have a limited choice of grades, and types, but its all sight unseen.
when you go to the CMP STORE at PERRY you can fondle, operate, inspect, check MW and TE numbers, check BBL manufacture, inspect cartouches, use a bore light, etc...
its a better way.
