.22LR Rifle

Im looking for a Rifle for target and plinking and my budget is 300-380 Dls could be semi automatic or bolt action and the main thing is needs be the best out of the box because I wont have any extra money except for a good scope and rings so all of you who have experience with 22's wich brand and rifle will be tha way to go??

    Can't go wrong with a 10/22.Maybe not the absolute best out of the box,but on that budget,you can afford a good scope and a little tweekin'.

    I haven't heard anything good or bad about the new Remington bolt action 22. For 2004 they come with 1" steel scope rings included. If Remington really did set out to make an adult-themed, accurate 22, and if the out-of-the-box accuracy behing the 700 has any bearing,...

    I'd wait to hear some feedback on the new Remington, either on your thread here, or in magazine tests. It IS a beautiful rifle.

    I have a Rem 581 from 1978 that is just dead #@*! accurate. It was cheap. I have a Savage 93 that is unbelievable (3/4" groups at 100yds in 22 magnum). The appeal of the 93's is that Rifle Basix now has an adjustable after-market trigger for them. I believe I can get smaller goups after I add that trigger!

    Maybe can find a Browning A bolt 22 for 380. or a Rem. 541-T. for that money. Both fine. IMO. nambu

    I am a fan of the Thompson Center Classic 22 semi-auto. It is one of the few 22 semi autos that has a steel receiver, match barrel and trigger. Mine will shoot 1/2" 50 yd groups with good ammo.

    Ditto on the TC reccomendation, but I'm not sure you can get one for that kind of money. I like the Savage 93's, and the 10/22 is a venerable old classic that has about as many aftermarket speed parts as a GM 350 V8! All things considered...I would look at the new Remington mentioned earlier. Bolt guns are the inherently accurate ones of the group and I am a big fan of the 700 series, aso, I guess that would be the one I would back!

    Had a Remington Model 512 for nearly sixty years. Just as good and dependable, as it was then. Put a side mount and a 4X scope on it for these old eyes, and will still kill most anything I point it at. Have an extra, should you be interested, at $236.89 + $23.11 S&I to your FFL. gw.

    My suggestion: Buy a Romanium .22 Bolt Action, Magazine [clip] Fed, Military Rifle....They come with Safari Sights [flip up] and shoot darn Well...and are selling at under a $100.00...........and a good looking Rifle to Boot!!!!
    Go online and check with J&G gunsales in Prescott, Arizona...Last I heard they were selling for around $79.00....

    i bought a romaniun .22 out of az at j&g its a nice looking rifel and very accurite i paid around $140.00 total for rifel and shipping i am very pleased with it

    For a bolt action, I'm surprised no one suggested either the Kimber or the CZ. Both of which are very tight great shooting 22's.

    The Kimber is way out of that price range. The CZ 452 is a good idea. I would also recommend the T/C though, it is a great gun for the money.

    I'd suggest the 10/22 Target, which msrp's just a bit out of your range, but comes tricked out from the factory (out of the box). I have the standard 10/22 and love it. I recently read a magazine review comparing the A-bolt to a Kimber and an Anschutz. It lost out due to poor accuracy. Suppose it could have been a lemon, who knows. I like the 77/22 also.

    Get a marlin mod 60 a brand new one runs around 160 or less accuracy is great out of the box, however if you plan to use a scope you will need adapter rings, since its made for .22 scopes. "btw get clamp on adapter rings not slide on, its imposible to slide rings onto the rail on it without dammaging the rail.

    I almost bought one for myself today, my dad got one a few months back and I love it open sights I could take a squirrels eye out at 100 yards easy :)

    hrm I am thinking of the right gun right? tube fed semi auto can't seem to find one for sale. Sorry Marlin model 60, seems that the newer ones are a bit nicer.
