Type 99

I was wondering how rare is this gun and what would it be worth? its a jap medium type 99, with clip on top and sites on left also has tripod and flash supressor.

    Not very rare. If the chrysanthemum (sp?) is still intact on top of the reciever it would be a little more rare. I have seen asking prices up to 350-400, but never seen one sell close to that. I have one my grandfather brought back from WWII.

    tks for quick reply. Guns in good shape and is pretty powerful, i shot it a while back.

    Is everybody on the same wave length? Anything with a "clip on top" and "sights on the left" with a "flash suppressor" is a Japanese light machine gun on the ZB-36 pattern. Anything that is a "medium", on a "tripod", that is a "type 99" equates to the Type 99 7.7 medium machine gun on the standard ground mount. Note that there never was an Arisaka with a top-mounted magazine with sights offset to the left for a line of sight alongside the magazine box, or an Arisaka with a flash suppressor.

    My thoughts exactly.The gun is of course illegal unless properly registered. The type 99 also used its own rimless,lubricated ammunition...almost impossible to find.

    I have a feeling we're being taken for a ride!!!

    no ride, short stock though, possibly to fit smaller build of jap infantry, kinda heavy to carry around all day though probably used in gun nests.
