Lambert Dumouliij SXS

I've aquired a Lambert Dumouliij (yes, that is how it is spellt). I can't find any information about it. The name is followed by LIEGE which I presume is Liege Belgium. It is a hammergun and is stamped "tested for smokeless powder". Under the barrels it has an "E" over a "L" and "G" in a circle. I was wondering if this is a Dumoulin knockoff (copy).

    Ok, what gives? Doesn't anybody have a clue where this hammergun with felt lined wood case and wood cleaning rod came from? A little help here, please.

    I think it's not that nobody cares... It's more that the waters are so murky that we don't really know.

    Belgians made (still make) a wide range of guns. Judging by your description of the wooden case, I'd have to believe that your gun is better in quality than most. I'd further venture that it's not a "copy of a copy". But then, neither of these facts makes the gun worth much more than its lesser siblings.

    The english script stampings would indicate that your piece was built for the trade as it was obviously intended for export. "Tested for Smokeless Powder" doesn't mean much as the "ELG" (as described) tells me the gun was proofed for black powder only.

    So... As best I can tell you have a Belgian trade gun that may stand a bit above most others. It would be unwise to fire the gun with anything other than black powder loads, and only after a complete check by a good smith. Lack of a "damascus" stamping and barber pole tubes may indicate mild steel construction. Certainly these would not be up to the strength required by modern loads.

    Value will be modest at best. Even if the gun fairly drips quality, it's going to be held down by the mere association of its Belgian roots and the antics connected with the time period of manufacture.

    Thanks Nord! I really appreciate the response. I was wondering about the slurry of Belgium made guns and their real value. You have cleared it up significantly. Would I be right in saying " if you can't find out anything about it, it is just a shooter, to the extent it is safe to shoot something from it's period (before it's checked by a good gunsmith)?

    Surprisingly, SxS's of the World does not list this maker. Sorry I could not offer more information!
