You might check to see if the serials happen to have any type of sequence to them. If they do, you could have a gold mine right there JJ. To the right buyer they'll be worth far more than the book value, I can't even wager an educated guess at this point however. Also, these might bring signficantly higher price if they were advertised in the areas where the PD markings were. You might get a retired officer who would like a NIB example of his duty gun.

I hope you find some 10mm's in the same condition for me. [:p]

I checked in 2 books ,for the model 10, 1 book shows NIB at $325 and the other listed it at $315 plus $12 if Nickeled, it also said to add 10-15% if the guns where pinned and recessed , which would be pre-1981 mfg.
as far as the Detroit PD stamp I don't know if it would really matter unless you found some one that was looking for them , to me if any thing it would take away from the gun , because i could care less about the stamp ,

model 27 , NIB $350 , 2nd book was $380 for NIB add $8 for 8-3/8" barrel (disc 1991) add 10% if pinned and recessed

both books show a value around $300 for the Chief's Special

like bambihunter says if you could find the right guy they may be worth quite abit more,

anyways hope this helps some , when you do decide on a price let me know as i maybe interested in one of the 10 or the 27 as a shooter

    In my market area:

Model 36 as new, w/ box, papers and tools will bring $300-$350+

Model 27 as new, w/ box, papers and tools will bring $400-$425 and, contrary to the BB if it had a barrel in the 4 to 6 inch range it would bring $450-$475+

On the Model 10's your off a couple years. Change "-5" was in 1962, but the description of box, etc. tracks what is cataloged as "Detroit Police" value wise, to realize any premium you would have to attract a collector of law enforcement related items, or that the Detroit connection would be an attraction. As new, w/ box, papers and tools can bring $300-$325 but you may find the PD markings hurt more than help in the general market, so I'll say $275-$300+ Of course if you have sequential s/n you may be able to offer sets/pairs, or some such "unique" offering. Suggest that you test the market with one that does not fit s/n sequence (if you have one) and don't offer them all at once or you will saturate the market.

Lastly, if your planning on getting into the S&W stuff you might want to consider getting yourself a copy of the Smith and Wesson Standard Catalog.

Once I rid myself of these estate guns, I will be tickled if I NEVER see another NIB gun in my life. It is to the point that I am tired of firearms, ammo, and related items. I made a deal today to sell 1500+ in one sale to a distributor at 1/2 the value my late friend gave for them but these were not collector firearms rather military surplus items. It did make room in the shop for more items out of the house. Thanks for the info. I have several LEOs in this area chomping at the bit for the Police marked revolvers so I will get a premium price on them. As to the others, they will do well but I just needed some input as to if I am on the right track. It seems that I am.

I would be interested in the Chief's Special when you get around to pricing it. [:)] -Don

If you could, let me know when the Mod 10s are offered. I'll search GB auctions.

I appreciate all the info and advice. I had one distributor come in and buy all the pistols as well as all military surplus long arms and ammo. If anyone is interested in any of them, check out

in the next couple of weeks because they cleaned me out at a very fair price. The model 10s will probably be in the $250 range. As to the rest, I have no idea but call them and talk to Lois or Tamara. Again thanks for the info.
