Springfiled 1911A1 National Match

I am considering purchasing a Springfield Armory 1911A1 .45 ACP pistol. The serial number on the slide is 6493 with the letters NM prefixing the numbers. The seller informs me that NM indicates National Match. Looking through my catalogs and other reference guides I can find no mention of a National Match pistol from Springfield Armory. The pistol has MMI adjustable rear sights ramp front sight and flat mainspring housing, but otherwise looks to be a standard 1911A1. Has anybody heard of a 191A1 National Match from Springfield Armory?

    This has come up before on GB. The NM prefix on the SA 1911 does not mean National Match. Some SA models have what they call match grade barrels but to my knowledge there is no National Match model. You are probably looking at a loaded target model. If you can indicate the model number, I can tell you what you are looking at.

    I bought ( new ) a SA 1911A1 pistol with a "NM" prefix to the serial number in 1987. It proved to be a enigma? it was "Blown Out" by a large Southern Calif Gun Store. They sold these pistols for $50 to $100 less then the other SA pistols. They were NOT marked made in Brazil. I found out much later that "NM" stood for New Model not National Match.

    Their was a article in "Gun Tests" magazine, years latter that alleged that their was a heat treat problem with certain of the early Brazilian imports that SA sold. Conceivably this is the explanation for these "NM" pistols?

    It is not a NATIONAL MATCH the confusion may come from the fact that from the mid 1950's until 1967 SPRINGFIELD ARMY ARSENAL made up pistols that was made up of parts marked NM "along with other SERVICE marksmanship units" I feel the current SPRINGFIELD and ROCK ISLAND armory took advanage of the name and rep. of these two arsenals and turn out @#$*^. for the price they charge. quote:"PRAISE THE HARDBALL GUN"

    Thanks for the responses. I did some research on the SA website and confirmed that there was no National Match offered by the company. I also discovered that Colt National Match models made by Springfield Armory, the govt. arsenal, had a unique firing pin with a notch that was used to index the firing pin.

    Maybe I should have started a new topic . I have a pair of 1911A1's. They are parkerized, both are stamped with the initials SA, both are stamped NM, they have U.S. Army frames and Gov't model slides. Both pistols have "Micro" sights. These pistols belonged to a relative of mine who was a shooter for the Army. He told me he purchased these guns at Perry in the 60's. Both are virtually unused. Any idea as to the value/

    HEY HEY now you got the GOOD STUFF If you have a chance get a copy of CURRENT "MAN AT ARMS" has a great write up with productin figures. When I first started going to camp perry "ANYONE " could check out a "HARDBALL" gun shoot it in the N.R.A. matches and then the DCM/CMP matches on BALL day and then believe it or not buy it for $112.00 and take it home after the 1968 TED KENNEDY gun control act YOU could still check one out but had to turn it in . These pistols as stated in my first post were put together from rack guns with special parts that wer stamped NM the slide and barrel "SHOULD" have either all or part of serial No. of the frame some where on them I said "SHOULD" because some low lifes would check out a gun and swap parts and return gun with scrape parts. the last one built by "SPRINGFIED" was 1967 "ROCK ISLAND " only one year 1968. Value I have a new LES BAER with BRIDGE MOUNTED Leupold/Gilmore red dot 1&1/2 inch garrenty group that I will trade you .Cheers quote:"PRAISE THE HARDBALL GUN"

    The numbers match on the barrel and frame of both pieces. Sorry to say not interested in trading. These guns belonged to my personal hero (a cousin of mine). This man was at the Battle of The Bulge in charge of an AA unit. He has died within the last 6 months.
    He gave me his personal 1911A1 that he carried at the Bulge. Wouln't trade, sell, etc. any of these pistols for love nor money.

    Hello Jeff so glad you are not going to sell I would never try to get someone to sell a family firearm I thought that because you were asking price you wanted to sell I have all records from camp perry from 1974 to 2004 on pistol matches I was Too young to keep the early ones If he shot after 1974 I can give you his scores. for insurance it would cost some where between $1500.00 and $2000.00 to get a pistol like yours Cheers Karl quote:"PRAISE THE HARD BALL GUN"
