Start by looking in your Blue Book in the "Weatherby" section. You will see several models that begin with "Mark V"; read the descriptions & figure out exactly which model you have. You really don't need to know the size action, but you DO need to know the caliber; they made a .300 WBY & a .300 Win Mag. Measure the barrel by dropping a cleaning rod down the muzzle until it hits the breech face; measure how much of the cleaning rod is inside the gun.

I think that answers most of your questions. However, I am a little concerned about them giving this assignment to someone not familiar with guns. The pawn shop does have a Federal Firearms License, doesn't it? Are you familiar with Federal firearms regulations? Do you know how to determine the firearms laws in every state & locality in the country? Do you know how to legally ship every type of gun, & by which carrier? If you can't answer "yes" to all of these questions, you may want to reconsider your employment; violation of Federal firearms law could easily lead to a felony conviction & prison time. You need to be careful here.

One thing to remember is that very few people will bid on a auction with a new seller. Its hard to send a stranger with no feedback and no history a lot of money. I would suggest selling little things, reloading componants, gun parts etc. until you have built up a good reputation then start with your lowest priced gun and work your way up to the nice stuff. You will get more money this way. Just my .02

In todays day and age and with the enormous amount of gun regulations varying from state to state I would be extremely leary of selling anything firearms related w/out having a clue of what your doing. Even listing firearms here for auction you MUST accurately describe the condition above and beyond the pictures you take . If you do not then you will have some very unhappy buyers, who if they saddle you with negative feedback will make it very tough to sell anything. Id learn as much as you can before taking the plunge.

God gave us all a gift. Have you found yours yet ?

Take the best photos possible and give as much info as you can from the gun such as barrel length, caliber, maker and such. If you look at the listings on GB, you'll quickly get the hang of things. Say you have a nice S&W model 17. Do a search on GB for that model and compare your gun to the one listed. Don't try to copy the listing word for word (Folks are touchy about that!) but just give an honest description. If your gun is perfect, say so. If it has an obvious flaw, say so, because the buyer certainly will in your
feedback if you're not honest. Visit gun related websites
and ask questions. List something soon and welcome to GB!

The barrel length includes the chamber. Measure where the barrel meets
the receiver, to the end of the barrel.

Short actions are your 44mag,22-250, 223,243,308. Short cartridges
Long action would be your 300mag,270,30-06, and Weatherby cartridges.
long cartriges. The medium actions would be like 30-30,35remington etc.

YOUR BEST TO HOLD OFF DIVING HEAD LONG INTO THIS ASSIGNMENT THAT YOU HAVE STARTED ON.

YOUR BEST BET IS TO DO AS YOU HAVE BEEN INSTRUCTED TO DO OR

    A) YOU'LL SOON HAVE A NUMBER AND NOT A NAME AND THEN THERE'S "BUBBA" AND HIS MATES WHOM I SURE YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW !

    OR

    B) YOU'LL SELL SOMETHING TO THE WRONG PERSON OR FOR THE WRONG AMOUNT AND LOSE YOUR JOB.

SOUNDS LIKE CHOICE A OR B ARE NOT GOOD IDEAS.

YOUR FUTURE IN THIS FIELD OF SALES WOULD NOT REQUIRE SHADES (SUNGLASSES) BECAUSE YOUR FUTURE DOESN'T LOOK TOO BRIGHT OR AT LEAST NOT BRIGHT ENOUGH TO REQUIRE THEM !!!

JUST A WORD TO THE WISE ENOUGH TO KNOW BETTER.
