Value of Complete overhaul on CMP m1 ?

if i choose to compeletely go thru my m1 garand and have it refinished .. reparked .. new springs .. new or refinished wood .. everything .. how will it effect its value ? ..

anyone ever try THIS guy out ? .

    Well, it looks as though old D. knows how to get the job done and the picture I looked at was very impressive indeed! Sad part is, after you've spent that much money on the restoration, I would have to say you will get your original purchase price back from the gun. The restoration will not add that much resale to the gun. If you want to do it to keep the gun for yourself and never sell it, then by all means go for it. If you seek to increase the value of the gun...its not going to happen! Whichever way you decide to go, good luck.

    I agree with KYDSTR. Those are beautiful M1's but unless they are restored with the proper component to the serial number era then they are just....pretty guns. If you look over at scott duff's sight you see what original or properly restored M1's will bring. But that restoration is only to bring them to exactly the mix of parts which would have been in them on the day they were manufactured. And those M1's tend to bring between $1600 to $2500 depending primarily on the age of the weapon. Pre Pearl Harbor M1's having a premium over 1942 or 1943 M1's which have a premium over 1945 M1's. And generally Winchester M1's have a premium over SA rifles. etc etc etc!!
    Now if this guy can make a shooter M1 for the J.C. Garand matches without it being matched out or appearing matched out then you have a possibility...but you won't get your money out of it...You'll just have a really nice looking weapon. If you just want an authentic non-match super shooter look around for one of VAR barreled Danish Garands. Jim Adell cleaned slow prone(one of only two shooters to do it) in last Saturday's J.C. Garand Match with a completely stock service grade Danish VAR barreled M1. He told me it(he) was all over the 10 ring. Now if a shooter of his skill is all over the 10 ring then you have to view with some skepticism promises of sub-minute of angle performance from a standard M1. Beach
