Ruger .36 cal

When you guys answer this I will probaly get a red face.

Any way...any such animal in the modren revover...1910 to present?

    I don't think so. Some guy is going on and on about his rare model 35 and showed me a picture of a S$W M36ls and said that is what it looked like.

    The only .36 I am aware of is the old blackpowder guns.

    the 38sp. or 357mag is really only a 36cal .357 could your friend be mistaking the bore as to what the gun really is ?

    Yes and no.

    The entire line of American ".38 caliber" cartridges are lineal descendants of the original .36 Colt. The first .38 rimfire cartridges were designed to emulate the C&B loading. I've never seen an authoritive explanation why the term ".38" was used. Perhaps for marketing (bigger is better, ya know), perhaps someone thought it sounded better or perhaps it was to distinguish it from the .36 cal loads. S&W's first external primed CF design was called the ".36/.38 S&W" but this terminology was soon truncated to ".38 S&W" . . . and everything since has been an effort to improve upon / differentiate from that nomenclature.

    Given that WRA had the strange idea of calling a .40 caliber cartridge the ".38 WCF," the latitude of an equivalent amount in the other direction doesn't seem quite so preposderous. And certainly the few .001" range between most of the various ".38" and ".357" rounds is miniscule by comparison.

    So the short answer is that there are all sorts of them in fact, but not in proprietary name.

    S&W did market, for a very short time, a ".35 S&W Auto" which was a semi-auto round in a proprietary AP intended to compete with some of the Colt AP firearms and loadings - big flop.

    The Europeans (British primarily) did style some of their early revolver cartridges as various flavors of ".360 CF xxxx" but I'm not aware of any of these being adopted by US manufacturers nor of any of our ammo makers even producing the rounds.
