260 vs 270! Comparisons! At least on paper the 270 looks superior to the .260.! HOWEVER! I haven't ever seen a .270 on the blocks at a long range target event! I have seen a few .260's!!! CAPT.....I'm surprised you don't have a computer program to generate all your comparisons anytime you'd want to see them!!! Since you don't, here are a couple!!:
260 Remington
140 grain bullet
BC = .490
MV=2830
100 yd preset zero
200 yds= -3.52
500 yds= -52.03
270 Winchester
140 grain bullet
BC= .456
MV= 3018
200 yds= 2.93
500 yds= -46.35
From these tables one would discern that the .270 is superior to the .260. HOWEVER, one was burning about 10 more grains of powder to get the 1/2 inch less drop at 200 yds and 5.5 in less drop at 500 yds and absorbing the difference of the recoil while handling a long action rifle versus a short one(never a consideration of myself anyway!!!!! Since I think the 25-06 will answer about all the calls these 2 will anyway) But I thought since you asked for a comparison, I'd do it! My personal opinion is that the .270 and 30-06 are two of the most unpleasant( I hate it when somebody brings either of these two to me for accurracywork!!!) chamberings I've ever had to mess with excepting the behemoth RUM's, Weatherby BS, or assorted other uncalled for stuff! It seems that I am misstepping in a couple areas today.

Just scroll down to "Cartridge 1" and select.
Then choose an entry for "Cartridge 2".
Select the "Calculate" button.

The cartridge that you are referring to, I think, is the 6.8 Rem. SPC, also referred to as the 6.8x43 SPC or just the 6.8 SPC. By caliber, it is a .27 cal. and by measurement it is 0.277" in diameter. So the cartridge is a .270 x 43mm. The case is 'new' but with the same case head and rim as the .30 Remington.
The .260 Remington is 0.264" in diameter and is also referred to as being in the 6.5 (mm) family. The .260 Rem. case is a necked down .308 Win. basically.
