Spanish Mauser

I have a spanish mauser serial # 2126.What year was it made??Iwould say it is in about 80 percent condition or better.

    I have a real nice Spanish mauser I bought at a show. The only thing wrong with it it has a turned down bolt handle. I.v seen a few spanish mausers and they all had a straight bolt handle. The bolt functions well but I don't want to shoot it for fear something bad might happen.I'm looking for advice, because I sure would like to shoot it. Thanks

    The two terms 7x57 and 7mm Mauser are for the same cartridge. Your rifle is supposedly chambered for this cartridge but if there is a question, take it to a gunsmith and have the chamber cast to be sure. You can post all of the markings on your receiver and folks here can help make sure that it is indeed a Spanish Mauser.

    Hello, I have a Spanish Mauser too, but mine is in 7.62X51 (.308). Make sure you don't try to use the wrong ammo.

    I had one of these rifles several years ago and it was 7mm Mauser or 7x57mm.

    It behooves us to be certain about the caliber. Mistakes can be costly.

    I've got the spanish mauser model 1916, that is in 308 winchester. This one, as I've been told, is the model 95 spanish mauser in 7mm.

    When your rifle was originally manufactured in the Spanish Military arsenal it was chambered for the 7 x 57mm Spanish Military Cartridge.

    When it was "sporterized" it was rebarreled/rechambered for the .308 Winchester Cartridge.

    As your rifle was built on the original Spanish Model 1893 Mauser Action rather then the later Model 1898, it's not considered as strong/durable. Be carefull shooting hot factory or handloads through it.

    Cuda and rufe; that M1916 Spanish Mauser in .308 Win. might be one of those Guardia Civil rifles that was modified to use the 7.62 CETME cartridge which is a reduced power 7.62 NATO. It's not a good idea to fire .308 Win. ammo thru it. The action was designed to handle the 7x57 as stated(which doesn't generate the pressures that the .308 does)and was re-barreled or rebored to take the .30 caliber cartridge. According to the NRA, shooting the .308 Win. thru that rifle is like subjecting it to a proof load every time it's fired.
