Shotgun Shells
I read a forum on centerfire shells shelf life and was just wondering..does the same hold true for shotgun sheels? How long can they be stored and still be safe to shoot. Thanks.

the money it costs to ship em makes em more than what you can buy em for at kmart. the best deal on shells in bulk is if you can get a club to order them buy the pallet or by the 18 wheeler. then...and only then, is it anywhere near a deal.

Go to a local trap/skeet club. The kids who work the traps here collect the unwanted hulls and sell them to reloaders. How many are you looking for? I have a friend who has a couple thousand AA hulls. You can also buy a case or two of loaded and keep the hulls. I can buy Estate 12ga for $3 a box here,just a little more than it costs to reload them. 0 -
Just a thought for you.Have you thought of reloading?You can buy a new Mec Jr. shotshell loader for under $100.Probably buy used loaders even cheaper.The initial setup costs are what add up but you will pay that initial investment back quickly because you will probably shoot more.Besides it is a lot of fun to reload. An example is I shoot skeet with a 28 gauge and a box of 28 gauge shells is about $7.50 and I can reload a box for $3.00.I hope this helps if you never thought about reloading. 0 -
are we talking shells or hulls? shells are loaded. hulls are just hulls. 0 -
are we talking birdshot,or buck?very few places discount the heavy stuff much...way more volume done in birdshot.
What price range are you trying to hit?ie:what is the going rage for 'me where YOU live?

The only way to come out without reloading is go in with a couple of your partners, and buy a truck load of shells. That is a hard project to accomplish, being as how most shooters don't have an extra thousand dollar bill to throw around for ammo. So what is left, is reloading! And when you get into it, it really is fun. If you find that you enjoy it, you can defray the cost of your shells by reloading for your friends, if you have the time. I have done it for years, cuz I am retired, so for the last fifteen years, my shells have been pretty much paid for.
Something to think about! If you purchase a good re loader, my suggestion is a MEC Grabber, progressive, simply because it throws a great reload, doesn't cost an arm and a leg, and pretty much never breaks. And you can load about three hundred rounds an hour, barring no screw-ups! Before you go any farther, and if you are serious about shooting Trap, look into reloading, you will not be sorry!

I noticed tha BassPro has shotgun shells reduced during their fall sale. The flyer I received is for the Cincinatti, Oh., store. $2.88 per box of 25 for Remington or Winchester. If you are near a BassPro store this would be a good price. These are not mail order prices. 0 -

I am looking for shells, not hulls. However, I have not considered reloading. I shoot primarily a 20 ga. Citori and have done a lot of Dove / Quail hunting in the past. I also shoot a 12 ga. for Turkey and Duck but am looking more into discount prices on the 20 ga. shells. I have just recently started doing a good bit of skeet and trap shooting which is what prompted my question. Any suggestions on how to get into reloading? Is it difficult?

I can get you 1000 rounds of Winchester target loads for $125, but you'd have to pick them up.
Reloading is easy, just requires you to spend time on it and do it right. I have a 20 gauge reloader if you're interested. Let me know.0
