Has anyone any info on the M38? I bought one of these yesterday for a pickup gun. Has serial #KN2361. Dealer seemed to think it was a 1944 unit without the bayonet, but does have a recess for an M44 bayonet.Has sling escutcheons fore and aft. Nice little carbine, matching numbers, lot of blue left, bright bore and cleaning rod. Stock has dings and gouges but can remedy this. I posted this on Gun & Knife under Russian weapons, had no responses. Anyone have an opinion??

I own a nagnat M38 in fair to good condition I am looking to sell.
what is it worth I also have 300 rnds of 7.62 X 54R russian ammo stored in a us mil can still paper wraped to go with it. can I sell this as an individual or do I have to go thru an FFL dealer?

M-N are being imported into this country by the container load. They're are being sold by many of the chain sporting goods stores among others. Generally the price is between $50 & $100.
Because of the above, it's not likely you will be able to get much money for yours.
Because it's a Model 38 Carbine, it will have to be sold through a FFL, if you sell it on the auction.
If you sell it locally as a private party transaction, most states allow you to transfer it without a FFL.

As has already been said, you aren't going to get much for it right now. $50-$100 is about right, but if you ask for $100 or more - despite what you see on the Auction side here - you are probably going to sit on it for a while.
I have gotten into "collecting" these very cheap rifles because they are very cheap. I have an M38 that I bought for $79.99 and I have an M1891/30 that I got for $35.00. They are in great condition - having looked at many. Those were my high and low marks.
Hang on to it. Like the flood of M1 carbines that hit the market a couple of decades ago and one could be had for about $50.00 but now cannot be touched for less than $150, the same will happen for these.0 -
My M38 I bought at a gun show about a year ago. I gave $60. The stock is passable, very few dings, the gun has most of the original blue, shiny bore and has the cleaning rod. I think I bought it cheap enough. Yours, as has been noted, should bring in that vicinity. 0 -
The gun is worth perhaps $50 wholesale, $75 retail. You could probably get somewhere inbetween there. The ammo is worth perhaps $30 to $50, depending on what type it is.
I don't understand why rufe-snow says it has to go through an FFL from a selling standpoint. Individuals, so long as they aren't doing it as a business, are allowed to sell firearms as it says right here in gunbroker's policies. The buyer must have an FFL or Curios and Relics liscence, but you as the seller don't need one; nor do you need one to ship. This is admittedly here in Ohio, if you live in Kalifornia or wherenot it may be different.
I would either list it here at gunbroker with a $50 opening bid no reserve, $15 shipping and see if it sells, or list it on a trader- gunboards has a good one- if you really want to part with it.
Ammo must be shipped seperately and can only go UPS.
