Remington 1100 LT-20

In my search for the right gun someone suggested the "Remington 1100 LT-20." Want something to have fun with plus protection against black bear/cougars? I just don't want a 12ga, don't need the recoil for when I'm just shooting around for fun. Any help would be appreciated.

    Would a 250gr Collet Cup Sabot Slug or a 7/8oz Dangerous Game Slug stop a bear? I know that slug guns are fairly accurate below 50-75 yards without a scope but don't know the ballistics on shotgun slugs.

    Yes, I'll second that this is a ggod choice. Yes the 20 Ga slugs would be sufficient for Cougar. Adequate for Bear too. The thought is you may kill the Bear but not before he finishes you, but you will likely protect any companions. Just hope the Bear is not really big (most in the lower 48 rarely break 500lbs these days)and not REALLY pissed off before the shooting starts...they are hard to stop in a charge. Hard to hit either Cougar or Bear more than once during a charge... you are shaking, the animal is running, and the charge starts at 75 feet or less....

    I do not think I would carry a 20 Ga if the Bears were Alaskan Browns or big Coastal Grizzlies...not enough gun!

    How was that duty in Hawaii? Well, I understand the place was pretty pricey when off the base, and a job is a job.

    Sure would have been nice to be stationed in Hawaii while I was in.

    I was a 2nd Division (Lejuene, NC) grunt. I just did not spend much time in NC...I was always being deployed somewhere.

    Good luck, and do practice reaction shooting if the critters are especially bothersome in your neck of the woods. Remember that most Cougar attacks come from behind - THAT is scary.

    Hawaii was nice especially because we were always choppering out to the outer islands for training. Was able to see a side of Hawaii most never see. I was a grunt then went scout/sniper. They just started up the sniper school in 1977 there and even today isn't as good as Quantico's or Pendleton's. Hawaii's lack a long range traing course.

    I really doubt that I will have any problems with normal bears/cougars. My best defense for cougars is stay close in groups. However, every now and then a rouge bear or a bold sick cougar gives you a stand-off. Those are the ones I'm concerned with. Again, probably will never happen but just incase, I want to be ready.
