Ruger "flattop"

Flat top will be flat back to rear sight vs later models have a raised rib on each side of frame at rear site. Flat top Rugers carry a premium. Bbl length is standard so no additional premium for bbl length.

    mm8manbu,

TOMBECK has given a good description. The "flattop" has a flat top the entire length of the backstap or upper reciever if you like that term better. I've got a flattop 44 that shoots like a dream. Very robust.

One more easy identifier, flat-tops have serial number below 42,689. Ruger went to the "protected sight" models in 1962. The first known 357 with the raised ribs is 42,691.

Feel free to drop me an e-mail if you have any more questions.

I hope you are the new owner of a nice new-to-you flat-top!

    Take care, and RKBA!
