Since most people seem to think that the Remington 710 is no good, what about the Savage 111? The prices are comparable and does anyone know about the quality and aaccuracy of this gun? Thanks again.

    quote:good gun?, is $299 a good price?,
[^] Yep all the way around. Just my 2 cents. I have a 110 in .270, 112 in 25-06. All of my other savages have been shooters as well.

Is this gun NIB for $299, if so that's a good deal. The simmons scopes that are on the savage package guns are junk. I would buy it and shoot it and but save up for a Leupold or Burris scope. As for caliber, if you ever plan on hunting elk or larger game go with the 7mm mag, if your just going to hunt deer or smaller game go with the 270win. It all depends on how much recoil you can stand and still be accurate. There is a huge selection of factory ammo for all 4 calibers so you can't go too wrong.

For my two cents worth--They are the best,(for the money), out of the box shooter you can buy. I have one in 22-250 and it shoots circles around my Winchester.

That gun is on "special" locally for $399. So, yea, that is a sweet price.
It would sure get me to crawl out of my shell.
The pre-AccuTrigger 111G in .243 was long my quest; iron sights and all.
Now the product line has changed slightly, and it is not in that caliber any longer, and the iron sights are off.
And the guys are talking me into a bigger caliber, because after you get the 100 yard shot down, you will want to get the 300-500 yard shot. I'll probably start with .308 or .30-06.

Here is my thread, a week old ...

I bought a new Savage 111 last winter in .300 saum from a dealer on this auction. Best price I could find anywhere and the gun is a tack driver.I think $299.00 is a good price and I doubt you will regret buying it.
