I have old 629 S&W, Looking for Any Info
I have a 629 Smith and Wesson, it has a pinned barrel, counter bored cylinder so the cases fit flush and a grooved trigger.
Can anyone give me some info on how many were made like this. I have had it since the early 80's. I have no intention of selling it but I would like to know some history.

Are you sure its a 629 and not a nickel plated model 29? What model does it say when you open the cylinder and look inside the yoke?
I am no expert on S&W's but I didn't think the 629 ever came with a pinned barrel and countersunk chambers.

The cylinder counterboring and pinned barrel was eliminated with the 629-1 in 1982. The 629's had both features.
The 629's were made for 3 years before the 629-1 came along. If you could post the serial number with X's in place of the last 3 numbers it would be of some help.

The 629 is catalogued as being made starting in 1979, but actual standard (commercial) production started with s/n N748564 w/ a 6 inch barrel in May of 1980.
The pinned barrel and counterbore cylinder were eliminated under change "-1" in 1982.
So unless you have a s/n below the one given above (which would make yours one of the "pre-production" models) your revolver dates to the time frame of 80-82 and to pin it down more you would need to contact Smith & Wesson for a Factory Letter which will run you $30.
Also, for future reference, when posting give as much info as you can. This is a tough environment to work in as we are totally limited to what people tell us. Also, quality pictures are a tremendous help! So do everything you can to help us to help you.

Yes is is a 629 the sre# is N777xxx , I think it was '82 or '83 that I bought it (Used....) and I have never seen another one. the Single action pull is like braking glass. I have had several Gunsmiths and inthusists look at it and mor than once was offered a trade for " Anything I have in the case... " . I won't part with it but I wanted to know how rare it was.

Brian... Your 629 was made in 1980. It is not really "rare" since 629's were made for 19 years from 1979 to 1998 which includes the 629 thru 629-5.
Obviously there were far fewer 629's without the dash manufactured as the first change, 629-1 came after only 3 years into production.
Like you mentioned, I would hold onto it and let your friends wish they had one.
