Value remington 878 Montgomery Ward
Good Afternoon; Can anyone tell me the value of a Remington 878 - 12 gauge, serial number 1001 stamped Western Field. Looks unfired ,it is rated at 99.9% . The story given to me, that it was a retirement gift that only 9000 were made. It is beautifully checkered and very nice wood, engraved receiver of a hunting scene. Any info would be wonderful and thanks.

The book says that the 878 was one of the earlier gas operated models that predated the 1100, circa late 50's. It's identified as the 878A "Automaster" and only a little more then 60,000 were made.
If it's marked Western Field it a "Store Brand" gun, made for sale by a specific retailer. Generally these "Store Brand" guns were utility grade and not made to sell for a lot of money.
Unless there would be some collectors interest/demand for it? I imagine it's value would be comparable to any used Rem. Auto. $250 - $350.
