Can I cancel a bid...
...in an active auction from a bidder who now says he no longers wants to buy the item?
Alternately, can he retract the bid?

its called a bid retraction. it is legal. the auction didnt close, thus it can be retracted. there are many reasons why retractions exist. it should be honored. sometimes kids get on and do things w/o parents ok, money problem, etc, etc... i would rather have a bidder come forward and say 'sorry, i cant do it,' instead of waiting until it closes. if it closes, now thats a a different story. 0 -
This is the wrong place for your question, you need to address it to GB unless you are asking a generic question.
If it is a generic question then the answer would be that not all auction sites have the flexibility of GunBroker and once a bid is made the site treats it as a binding contract to purchase if it is the winning bid.
Now with that said, I am of the same opinion as Bobski.
If you only have time to do two things so-so, or one thing well ... do the one thing!0 -
Understood. He's changed his mind, I WANT him to retract the bid if he now doesn't want to honor it. But technically, I'm not sure how that is done. Could you point me to some directions?
Thanks!

Actually it is a fairly good generic question, although in this case, I want to learn the answer and then apply it to a specific incident. ;-)
Is there some other way I should address the question with regard to the specific auction?
Thanks!

Well, actually, the reason this is a forbidden topic is because the "Posting Guidelines" prohibit the posting of technical questions concerning the operation of auctions. If you go to the "Posting Guidelines" page, you will find a link to the "Help center", which is the place to go get help with your situation. I had a similar problem with an auction, & found GB management to be helpful.

DON'THINK A BID CAN BE CANCELED. GOOD LUCK

pull the bid for crying out loud. mark it no longer available on line. label it 'sold in store' and repost it.[xx(] 0
