Reloading 41 Rem Mag

I need some input on reloading the 41 Rem Mag for a Taurus Tracker 4" barrel .vs. a Marlin 1894FG with a 20" barrel....

    What bullet weight are you using? I load my 41 revolver and Marlin with a Cast Performance 250 WFNGC and 21 grains of H110. This is doing 1400 FPS from my 6.5" barrel. It has never been chronograped from the Marlin.

    I hate to be the one that throws water on the fire but that load of a 250 grain gas check bullet is an absolute MAXIMUM LOAD AND SHOULD ONLY BE USED AFTER CAREFULLY WORKING UP TO IT IN A PISTOL. 245 grain lead bullets with 21.o grains of H110 is the maximum load listed in my manual and it shows a pressure of 37,400 CUP and that's without a gas check. That's getting up there on pressure for a pistol. It would probably be alright in a rifle as strong as the Marlin but please work up slowly in a pistol. Remember also, when you put a gas check on the base of a lead bullet it helps with the leading of the barrel but it does run pressure up higher with the same load versus a non-gas checked bullet.

    pinhead's comment is right on the money and should be regarded as a sensible precaution for working up any load. That said, my hunting load is a touch hotter than aglore's, using a 270 gr GC lead bullet with a MV of about 1500 fps (and 4" groups at 100 yards) out of my Blackhawk. I don't think I would use that load in a Tracker though. I suggest that you get some heavy bullets (250 to 280 gr) and slowly work up to an accurate load in the revolver and then see how well it works in the rifle. Could be that you may have to compromise to get a load that works well in both.
    BTW, working with heavy revolver loads is a slow process as just a few rounds will cause YOU (not the gun) to suffer accuracy loss. When I work with the blackhawk I shoot 5 rounds, wait about a half hour then do 5 more.
    You should also check each chamber for accuracy. I shoot only 5 chambers because the 6th will widen the groups out to 8 - 9".

    Everyone has some good feedback. I use a couple of 44 Super Blackhawks and a Marlin.

    I finally compromised on a few loads that work well in both, But... this is why I responded.

    In the quest for the single hunting round for the revolver and rifle, I noticed some primer warnings of excessive pressures in the rifle that looked perfectly normal when shot from the revolvers. Same lot, loading, and everything. I slugged the barrel and re-checked the OAL... all was OK. I can repeat the condition, but I can't explain it with certainty. May be a combination of things, but you may want to be on the lookout for something similar.
