How much heat can scope take

I just put a scout scope and mount on my M1A. It works well, but it heats up rather quickly. I did not let the rifle cool as I fired several different loads for accuracy, totalling about 80 rounds. The scope got very hot from the heat of the barrel. (the mount clamps on the barrel) It wasn't hot enough to burn you but it was uncomfortable to touch. I suspect the temperature would have been about 150 degrees give or take.....

Anyone have any idea how much heat a scope can take before it blows the seals or is damaged in some way? Will excess heat cause the point of aim to shift without damaging the scope. Appreciate any info....

    What was your scope of choice? I ask this, simply because I have had better luck with some than others. I have a K-4 Weaver that is so old that it had brass rings at the objective lens and eyepiece. It can take all the heat that a locked closed pickup, Georgia asphalt, and August can dish out.

    I have a Burris mounted on the rifle. I have emailed the company and Springfield armory about it also....Thanks for the reply.

    a burris scope will take alot of heat my brorher has one on a 7mm mag and has fired rounds thru it till you couldnt touch the barrel or the scope(i wouldnt recomend this its hard on the fire arm)and it still shoots 2"groups at 100 yds
