loose S&W revolver

model 10-5. front of cylinder can be moved a considerable amount from side to side. it appears to be a worn front latch at the front of the ejector rod. will a new front latch remedy this condition and does a new latch have to be fitted to the gun or are the latches a standard size?

  Bob, check the little screw at the end of the ejector rod. Is it tight?
  
  That screw is what keeps the cylinder tight. It can work loose over time and useage. If it works out too loose, it locks up the cylinder, and you have to take it to a gunsmith to get it open.
  
  Make sure it's good and tight, and let us know if that works.

  thanks for the reply James
  there is no screw at the end of the ejector rod, however earlier where the ejector rod is screwed into the sleeve inside the cylinder did come loose and i couldn't cose the cylinder. there is a spring loaded latch pin at the front of the ejector rod and that seems to be where the loosness is. it looks to me that if the latch pin fit closer and tighter it would eliminate most of the looseness

  If the area of looseness is where your stating then the latch detent/spring should do the trick and no there is no fitting per se
  
  But if your not sure ... get a gunsmith to give it a quick eyeball.
  
  
  
  If you only have time to do two things so-so, or one thing well ... do the one thing!
