Browning Ultra XT Trap vs New BT 99

I am looking for my first trap gun and i am looking at an ultra xt trap model obviously used. And a brand new bt 99. The ultra xt i believe is well used because the lever to open the action is ALMOST in the center and it is very loose(the action). But the person who owned it definitly took care of it because the bores are like mirrors. Also, the xt the comb adjusted and the LOP adjustments too! But then i look and see i can get a brand new bt 99 for $1100 and the ultra xt being $1500. I would buy the xt but i am concerned about it being to used. Like i said the lever is almost in the middle and the action is very loose but the bores are like mirrors. And it has all of the adustments. What would you do? Ultra Xt or New BT 99?

    what i mean by loose is that its very easy to break open.

    rc1988 - I do not know if you intend to shoot doubles trap, but the XT would give you that option. It is important that when closed, the XT action is tight. $1500 does not sound too bad if metal and wood condition is 95% (few scratches and dings, little loss of blueing). Brownings offer alot of value for the money, especially when you consider the cost of P guns and K guns. Your first trap gun probably will not be your last and you would be able to sell a Browning easily. Good Luck!

    Labwild has given excellent advise. Most likely your first trap gun will not be your last (depending on the depth of envolvement in trap) and the XT gives you the option of shooting doubles).

    My first trap gun was an XT and later I went to a P gun. But I still enjoy the XT and use it for a backup.

    rc1988, if at all possible, shoot both guns before you make a decision on which gun to buy. They are equally good trap shot guns, and you can not go wrong in buying either one of them. As posted before me, the XT gives you the option of shooting doubles if you ever want to, and $1500 for a used XT is a great price. Maybe it would be a good idea to go to the Browning web sight, and find out if there are any problems with the XT's, and go from there.

    I personally shoot the Browning BT 100, and absolutely love it. But when I get the chance to purchase the XT Trap, I will definitely jump on it. The XT just handles better in trap shooting, than the BT100.
