If the gun was made before 1898 it can be shipped by UPS or other carrier but not US mail.GW

An antique firearm MAY be mailable by USPS; read USPS Publication 52, section 234.

In addition, receipt of the antique firearm must be legal in the locality to which it is being shipped; read "State Laws and Published Ordinances - Firearms" (ATF P 5300.5).

If the gun was made in the year 1898 it is an antique.
I has to be made before Jan 1 1899.

All antique firearms are mailable. Check the Domestic Mail Manual, Section C024. Publication 52 is a consumer guide and has some errors in it just like the BATF FAQs are incorrect on some points.

I always ship through the US Postal Service. Priority Mail is fast, reliable and economical. You can ship antique firearms to anyone of legal age & locality or modern rifles & shotguns to an FFL holder. Handguns may only be shipped by an FFL dealer and must file a Form 1013 with their local Postmaster.
