1903 Springfield barrel question
I have two Springfield armory rifles. One has the SA 6-18 barrel and appears to have matching numbers. However I have another Springfield
armory that has and HS Stamped barrel. What does the HS stand for?

The HS stands for High Standard Arms Company. They made barrels for the 1903 during WW II. I have one that also has a HS barrel marked HS 7-44 which means it was made by High Standard during the 7th month of the year 1944. By the way, I have found HS 4 groove barrels to be a mite more accurate than the standard 2 groove barrels by Remington and others made during the war. But the difference is certainly very small. You have to shoot off a rest to see any difference--at least I do. 0 -
