Resumption of Foreign Semi Auto Imports
Assuming the ban on foreign imports of pistol grip, magazine loading, rifles expires in September how long do you think it will be before we see a resumption in imports of high quality (H&K, FAL, Steyr, etc.) rifles?

je's question is just another illustration of the general misunderstanding of the law in regard to "assault weapons." As Mr. Christian says, many of the most desirable "assault weapons" (imports such as the Steyr AUG, H-K 91 and 93, SIG 550/551, etc.) were banned by the 1989 import ban, not by the 1994 Crime Bill. If the 1994 AW ban sunsets, unless a manufacturer decides to build the 1989-banned rifles in the United States, there will still be no more.
However, I do disagree that a new law would have to be passed to allow importation of the now-banned imports. The import ban was the result of the Bush41 executive order, not as the result of legislation signed into law. Therefore, I do not believe legislation would need to be passed and signed into law to remove it. I believe Bush43 could do it by executive order, but almost certainly will not.
Vote for Bush even if you have to hold your nose. A third-party vote, or no vote, is a vote for Kerry, which is worse.0 -

This mis-conception has caused a significant dip in prices of many imported "assault weapons" ... I picked up an HK-91 a week or so ago for $1500 with an A3 stock and an barely or unfired SP89 for $2500 ... cheapest I've seen either in several years.
Recently I saw a matching number AUG with right and left hand bolts and a 24" hbar(not matching) for $3500 ... besides the fact I don't need a 3rd, I already spent my "mad money"!.If you really want to do something, you'll find a way ...

Even if I had it, I'd still have a hard time justifing another AUG when that same money could most likely be invested in some 2-3 more HK's, 5-6 AK's ... You start getting up into that price range and your buyers start getting further apart!
What I'd really like to see is a mint SIG 550 or 551 for $2500 or and ... (as long as I'm dreaming you could throw in a bunch of mags scope mount and Ziss, hbar ... [:p].If you really want to do something, you'll find a way ...
