I could be wrong...But I believe the Forearm will Pull Off by grasping it at the Muzzle End and Pulling it away from the Barrels...The only other way to keep the Forearm on is to have a Screw into the underside in the Barrel Support Rib....I don't have a model 311 in my hands so am running on memory.....

The Captain is correct, Holding the barrels with one hand, grasp the front end of the forearm and pull away.On this model, Don't remove the screw on the bottom since this attaches the wood to the hanger.

After the forearm is off just break open the action and the bbls will unhinge.

Maybe I asked the wrong question. Thanks for your reply's by the way. I want to break the gun into two pieces. I want to remove the barrels from the butstock/reciever end of the gun. When the wood foreend of the gun is removed (taking out the screw), there is a latch type affair. I cannot unlatch it with my fingers, although it looks like it will unlatch. The gun is pretty low mileage so I believe it is just tight. I have tried to figure out the latch, but I don't even know if it is made to come apart by hand. I don't want to go putting a screwdriver to and break something......I guess I should buy one of those repro manuals off fleabay.

    Thanks again ........Rob

Rob- note I said not to remove the screw. You will be using the wood of the forearm its self for a grip and leverage.Screw the wood back on. The latch is spring loaded. Grasp the front of the forearm wood and pull hard....you won't break it.When its off simply open the action and as you bring down the bbl, it and the receiver will seperate. When you reassemble, the forearm will snap back into position.

Hangfire, you are a gentleman and a scholar. Thank you very much. It worked like a champ. I knew I could get the answer here. You guys are experts. Now I can get me one of those snooty breakdown cases for my old betsy.
