Lock assembly
I have a half stock percussion cap muzzle loader with J. HENRY & SON on barrel. The lower forward portion of the lock plate has MOOh-E embossed on it. The dash before the E is higher than it prints here. It's a double set trigger. Who made the lock? What does the name mean? I spent several hours with the original owner in 1974 when he was 93. I never discussed the gun at that time, but sorely regret it now. Any info on this .36 caliber would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the Ask the Experts and the gunbroker.com Family....I can tell You all about the Henry Family from the early 1700's up to and almost thru the early 1900's....But can't find anything on the Lock maker MOOh-E...! You say its embossed? That means the Lock Plate was Cast..!Is this Lock Plate Brass?..There were a few Brass Lock Plates Made in the 1700 and 1800's and I have one buried away in my Collection of Trash and Treasures...The caliber being a .36 means this Rifle is or was a Squirrel Rifle...
Without going into great depth with the Henry Name...James Henry succeeded to the business on His father death in 1836. In turn, about 1860, he took his Son Granville into partnership. The arms being marked "J.Henry & Son". In the interim between 1836 and 1860 or so the Arms produced by James Henry were Marked "J.Henry...James died in 1894....
Sorry I can't be of any help with this Lock Maker.....but will file a Card in my database....maybe someday the name may Pop Up....best.....
