AMMO QUESTION: 6.35X15.5 ENHANCED SOVIET CARTRIDGE

in compiling a research file for a rather rare, oddball RUSSIAN semi-automatic handgun, i have come across 2 referances to ammo that i have never seen before....

6.35X15.5MM BROWNING SOVIET ENHANCED CARTRIDGE (.25 ACP / 6.35MM)
both referances state that the round had a higher velocity, and a special projectile. i can not locate specs, load data, history, or any other data on this cartridge.

the only lead i have is that the round was produced for the SOVIET SECURITY FORCES (TCHEKA) and developed under the auspices of the SPORTING CLUB DYNAMO, a state supported sporting orginization of SOVIET LAW ENFORCEMENT and STATE SECURITY FORCES. this ammo was made available to TCHECKA,& NKVD agents, as well as RED ARMY senior NCO`s and higher echelon officers.

what is it??? whats the load??? whats the special projectile??? when was it made??? does it work??? ever seen it??? any info, specs, data, experiance, samples, etc...???

    Mike, the Cheka was the very first Soviet secret police agency, so if this round exists / existed, you are talking about something which came about not just in a time of great upheaval, but also great anti-western paranoia almost a century ago (granted, that would continue for another 75 years, at least). None of my references, including the Russian ones, describe this round, but that is not a definitive answer. I agree w/ oa, your best bet will be the IAA cartridge forum. Actually, given your interest in ammo, I would urge you to join the organization. I think you would find the contacts, monthly magazine and similar benefits well worth the annual membership fee.

    it has been suggested that the round in question is similar the .250 MAG used in an AMERICAN DERRINGER CORPORATION semiautomatic pistol, but i cannot locate info on that round either...

    i have emailed "experts" from several sights, and have recieved no information...

    Is this the round designed for the Soviet PSM pistol? I have one referrence to the gun (a small, thin, flat sided gun resembling a diminutive walther PPK) which indicated it is a small pocket type auto that was to be used by special sevices operatives. It was supposed to have a small projectile of special constuction that was intended to have exceptional penetrative powers against body armor of all known construction. Beyond that (if this is even what you are refferring to!) I have little info.

    externaly it is the same dimenion as the standard .25 acp round, but with an enhanced loading, and a special projectile...

    Hey Mike,
    Sounds like it might be the same cartridge of which I speak. The case looks like a slightly necked spitzer loaded 25 ACP...actualy, I think the round I'm speaking of is a 22 cal so perhaps I am talking apples and oranges. Sure wish I could help you more, and had more than just the one picture to go from!

    It is probably steel-cored specialty round like the .22cal round that they used in the PSM. The PSM was usually issued to officers or KGB for questionable uses as it is not an overly good man-stopper, but it would go through Kevlar better than the 357 Mag.
