1911 machine specs

I am looking for a site or referance for the proper machined dim. for a 1911 frame and slide. I am working from a 60% frame and will machine a little oversize and then "fit" by hand file. But, I don't have the specs and tol. that a finished part "should be".

Most 1911 web sites give me a parts breakdown, but no real dim. information. Any help would be appreciated.

    I offer this as a possibility since it will take some time to ferret out the drawings from this site. I don't remember all of the ins and outs of this site so just take some time and look around. There is a lot of information here but unfortunately some of it needs a filter for the 'bubba' factor. The drawing and library sections have some fairly professional handling by a very competent tech person. A couple of years ago, they had a full set of drawings for the 1911 available as a download along with AR-15 prints. They may have gone commercial, I don't know. Take a look at the Main Forums and the first section marked "Information Exchange". If it's not there, keep looking.

    Well, it took a while but I finally found the file.

    Scroll down to 'blueprints' and select 1911A1 frame. It's a .ZIP file that will transfer directly to a 3.5 Diskette. If you want bigger prints, take the disk to a quick print service and have larger outputs made.

    From the disk, open up the file which is in Acrobat (.pdf) then use the 'view' feature at the top of the screen to enlarge any of the features.

    Before leaving the site, take a peak at the 1911A1 in the left menu. There is some very nice animation of the firing sequence.

    That should get you everything that you need.

    Thanks guys. I knew I could count on you guys to know where to get this.

    Now all I have to do is start cutting and filing, and filing, and filing.

    Just remember.....it's always easy to take more metal off....and somewhat more difficult to add it back on. [:D]
