Mini 14 accuracy "fix"

So I have this Mini 14 Ranch rifle now for a year or so. I have a couple thousand rounds of Wolf .223, 55 grain HP ammo and I can't get this Mini to shoot it worth a hoot. I know they are not the most accurate guns around but they should do better than 6" groups at 100 yards with an occasional flyer to boot. Thought about selling it off and getting a "Black Gun" but I'm not ready to give up yet. Besides sending it off to an accurizing shop that specializes in Mini's and dropping a ton of money in it what can I do?, what about a simple barrel swap or something?. Looking to hear some ideas from you experts. If it would shoot 2 or 2.5" groups I'd be happy "er".

    If you don't reload, try some BLACK HILLS ammo. You should get 2" groups with it. That Russian stuff an't known for accuracy. My Mini gets 13/4-2" groups with good ammo.

    Mine shoots Lake City ammo in the 1 1/2-2" range at 100yds., some reloads are better than that depending on the wind.
    You can't expect a Ferrari to run well on Diesel; so you shouldn't expect one ragged hole with ammo that only cost $2 a box.

    I have never had a Mini-14 that will shoot worth a damn at 100 yards or greater. The best I can get mine to shoot is about a 10" group with quality ammo. Now my Ruger model 77 bolt action in 223 will cloverleaf a group at 100 yards, five shots touching from a bench rest position. I don't know why the Mini 14's are so inaccurate. They are fun to plink with though.

    While I personaly don't care for a Mini, the guys over at www.perfectunion.com have a lot of at experance making a Mini shoot (it's almost a FAQ over there).

    Thanks guys. I checked out the other forum. I know the ammo I'm using is not great but I expect a little more out of the gun than what I'm getting. I do reload but with .223 ammo so cheap I'm not about to waste my valuable time cranking out plinking ammo and the occasional prairie dog, Coyote, and Jackrabbit shot. When I first got it I shot some Winchester ammo through it but it was only "somewhat" better than what I currently am getting out of the gun. I have a new Simmons scope on it and am tempted to try that scope on another gun that is a proven tack driver to see if it is scope trouble, I heard that Mini's are tough on scopes. Thanks again..........

    Friend sent off his mini for a new barrel, accurized, trigger work, spent over $1K, still only shoots 2-3" groups... Buy the black gun...

    Mine seems to like winchester 40gr. HP's little too much to plink with but is shooting them at about 1 1/2" groups.

    First of all. The mini's were not designed to be tac drivers. They were designed as well functioning tactical,ranch and border patrol rifles. These rifles are one of the most reliable semi-autos you will find in .223.

    The problem with these rifles is the barrels, they are so thin that they dont provide good stability. if you want good groups with this rifle, you will need trigger work and some form of barrel stabilizer.

    They may not shoot M.O.A. but they should do far better than 10" groups.

    Never heard of a Mini-14 being categorized as a Ferrari[;)] More fittingly, a Ford Festiva won't run well on diesel either[:o)]

    I'd get access to a good digital scale and weigh the ammo for consistancy. If the ammo is off by a few grains one way or the other it would go a long way to explaining the large groupings.
