Peep Sight ID
I'm handling some estate items and came across a pill bottle with this peep sight. Why is it offset? Is that cam pictured with it a part of the peep sight? If so, where does it go? The mounting screws on-center dimension is 25/32".

Its a Side Mount Rear Sight...and I believe its a Lyman Sight...This is the Type of sights used on Muzzle Loading Target Rifles....

I believe that is a Marlin sight, used on bolt action 22's from the late 50's to early 70's. The "L" shaped piece of metal on yours that the peep is attached to, appears to be upside down and facing the wrong way. The thumb piece should be under the thumb screw.

Yes the cam does go with it. Turn the L shaped piece over. The cam goes over the L piece and threaded stud, them puy thumb screw over cam. I believe there is a small pin on the L shaped piece that rides in the curved slot on the cam. I am going on memory now. I do not have one in front of me. But I am looking at a picture in Nick Stoebers book Old Gunsights.Check out this site, you can see your sight on this rifle. Hope this helps.

pact, thanks for the instructions and the link. I assumed the base of the sight attached to the TOP of the receiver. Not so.

it is a Marlin 12R sight. They typically sell on that other auction site that starts with the letter E for $15 or less. 0 -
