Winchester 94/22 Manufacture date

I have a Winchester 94/22 Mag XTR and I would like to find the date of manufacture. Serial #F511XXX

  There are no published serial number to DOM lists that I am aware of for the Model 9422, but I feel that it is safe to say that your rifle is definitely somewhat later than the introduction date of for this Model in 1972. I would be willing to bet that Winchester can tell you when it was made if you give them a call them at their 1-800 number.

  Thanks for the reply Bert H. I still haven't found any info but I wrote down the Winchester customer service number and I will give them a call sometime.

  The Winchester dates of manufacture gives no more information that Bert has already given you. Henshaw's history of Winchester firearms 1866-1992 does offer this: Introduced in 1972, "upgraded in 1978 to an XTR gun, with high-luster wood finish and highly polished, deeply blued metal surfaces. In 1980 the 9422 was again upgraded, this time with fine-cut checkering on the forearm and buttstock..." As of 1980 about 400,000 hand been built in .22 and .22 magnum. Maybe the finish characteristics will help you narrow it a little.
