    jward,
on the left side of the frame under the harrington & richardson name is a single letter (usually just below the h in harrington. if you can find this letter code it will give the year of manufacture.

the model 48 was actually introduced in 1943 and discontinued in 1954. it was produced in limited numbers during wwII.
letter codes are as follows; 1943=D, 1944=E, 1945=F, 1946=G, 1947=H, 1948=I, 1949=J, 1950=K, 1951=L, 1952=M, 1953= N, 1954=P. the letter o was not used. if your shotgun has any letter code other than one of these i would certianly like to here about it, as i am doing research on H&R firearms.

the value that the captain gave you are good but you usually want find a 410 at any gun show for under $100 unless it is a piece of junk.

I have a Harrington & Richardson Topper 48. The letter underneath Harrington & Richardson is a "R". In a previous reply "R" was never mentioned. Does anyone know anything about this? Thanks.

I have a M48 410 Harrington Richardson in mint condition. It has the letter W under the H in Harrington. What year would this be? I got it as a gift from my uncle back in about 1962 or so. It has been fired about 15 times in all these years and stored in a lined gun carrier all this time.

The serialization section at the back of the Blue Book of Gun Values lists serial number prefixes for H&R from 1940-1982 and the dates manufactured for the single barrel model numbers. It's too long to list here.

My Topper M48 is a 16-ga. single shot and only has the numerals 17 under the name on the left side of the gun. Says it was built in Massachusetts. Any idea when it was manufactured?
